Analysis: iSlots

Concept: iSlots is a free downloadable game for the iPod Touch that allows the user to play on a virtual slot machine.

Pros: Plays exactly like a real Vegas slot machine, decent graphics, and no spending real money. Lot of use for short bursts of time.

Cons: The use of a slot machine for an iPod is an iffy concept at best. It has short pick up and play appeal, but there's no consequence or result for winning or losing. Not only does having no money on the line completely ruin a major portion of the appeal to gambling, but there's no result for winning. There's no loud sound effects or flashing lights for a win. There's no catchy little losing sound effect. Furthermore, the game utilizes touch capabilities, but only does so to press the bet buttons. I can't help but feel that if you're going to bother with touch capabilities, it would be nice to be able to pull the handle for each spin. The game is little more than watching a number of imaginary credits go up and down.
